Managing Your Position

Managing Your Position

After opening a position on Portal, it’s important to actively monitor and manage it to avoid liquidation and maximize your potential gains.

This page explains how to manage open positions effectively.

Where to Manage Positions

  • Navigate to the Portal section on Loopring DeFi.

  • Click the Dashboard tab.

  • Here you can view all open positions, your margin level, and current profit or loss (P&L).

Key Metrics to Watch

  • Margin Level: Indicates how safe your position is. (Stay above 1.5 for low risk.)

  • Liquidation Threshold: The margin level at which your position will be forcibly closed.

  • Profit: Shows your current profit or loss on the position.

Adding Collateral

If your margin level drops, you can add more collateral to lower your liquidation risk.

To add collateral:

  1. Go to Collateral Management under the Dashboard tab.

  2. Click Supply and add ETH, USDC, or USDT.

πŸ’‘ Adding collateral boosts your margin level and pushes your liquidation price farther away from your current price.

Closing a Position

You can close a position at any time to realize profits or cut losses.

To close:

  1. Go to the Positions tab in Portal.

  2. Find the position you want to close.

  3. Click Close and confirm the transaction in your wallet.

⚠️ Positions are closed at market price. Be mindful of slippage during periods of high volatility.

Best Practices

  • Regularly monitor your margin level.

  • Add collateral proactively if you enter the medium-risk or high-risk zones.

  • Close your position if market conditions change unfavorably.

  • Plan your exit strategy before opening a high-leverage trade.

Example: Adding Collateral to Avoid Liquidation
  • You have 1,000 USDT of collateral supporting a 3,000 USDT leveraged long position.

  • After a price drop, your margin level falls into the high-risk zone (1.12).

  • You add 300 USDT of additional collateral.

  • Your margin level improves to 1.35, returning to the medium-risk zone and reducing your liquidation risk.
